Ruma Devi is the president of Gramin Vikas Chetna Sansthan (GVCS), an NGO in Barmer, which aims to work towards the empowerment of women artisans by promoting traditional techniques of appliqué cut work and patchwork. At 30 years of age, she is leading a group of 11000 women in 75 villages, training them to become future entrepreneurs in their own right. She has been awarded several prestigious awards including Nari Shakti Award, the highest civilian honor for women in India acknowledging her efforts towards women empowerment.
