Kamla Poddar is a non-conformist and an icon for empowering girls through high quality, skill-based education through Kamla Poddar Institutes, primarily to bridge the skill gap for better employment opportunities. She set up the VKP Foundation for numerous social initiatives like interventions in the areas of inter alia, higher education and promotion of local art forms and providing support to artisans. Her philanthropic efforts extend to offering free education to the children of cancer patients at the Bhagwan Mahaveer Cancer Hospital as well as financial assistance to meritorious girls through the Kalpana Chawla scholarship, instituted by her. She has been recognized for her contributions in the apparel industry and for excellence at the Kamla Poddar academic centers.
